Social Media During A Personal Injury Case

The world is always changing, especially today with technology. It is vitally important that once you are injured and have begun pursuing a case, you very carefully monitor what you put on social media. The use of social media can have a huge impact on either side of the lawsuit and it is important for both parties to be aware of what they are posting. What most people don’t realize is that the insurance companies of the parties involved absolutely do monitor these sites and will use any post that you make against you if they have the opportunity to do so. For example, you may be suffering from a very serious injury but decide to go with the family on some kind of hiking trip. If you post pictures of that type of situation, the insurance company will clearly show that to the jury during a trial and try to use it against you.
On the other hand, if the defendant claims that they saw something during the accident from a distance but then post on Facebook that they have finally gotten eye surgery and can see perfectly now, it may bring some trouble on their behalf. This makes the possibility that the person did not actually see what they have been claiming they saw throughout the entirety of the case. Social media posts can change the trajectory of a case dramatically and therefore it is absolutely vital that you maintain an awareness of your profiles and the effect that your posts may have on the outcome of your lawsuit.
